USS STERETT (DDG 104) WINS THE 2023 SPOKANE TROPHY
August 19, 2011 – CMC Chris Benavidez, CDR Richard “Rich” McDaniel and Rear Admiral Troy Shoemaker, Commander Carrier Strike Group NINE (CGS 9)
The Spokane Trophy embodies the meaning of Esprit de Corps, which is a feeling of pride, fellowship, and a common loyalty shared by all its members. In 2010 just two years into her life, the USS STERETT (DDG 104) was recognized as the best surface combat ship – meaning that it was considered to be the most proficient in overall combat systems readiness and warfare operations in the entire Pacific Fleet! Starting in 1908, the award has been won by ships like USS TENNESSEE (the first recipient), USS ARIZONA, and USS WEST VIRGINIA. What a legacy to follow!!!
