[August 19, 2011 – CMC Chris Benavidez, CDR Richard “Rich” McDaniel and Rear Admiral Troy Shoemaker, Commander Carrier Strike Group NINE (CGS 9)]

The Spokane Trophy embodies the meaning of Esprit de Corps, which is a feeling of pride, fellowship, and a common loyalty shared by all its members.  In 2010 and again just two years into her life, the USS STERETT (DDG 104) was recognized as the best surface combat ship – meaning that it was considered to be the most proficient in overall combat systems readiness and warfare operations in the entire Pacific Fleet – one award per year!  Starting in 1908, the award has been won by ships like USS TENNESSEE (the first recipient), USS ARIZONA, and USS WEST VIRGINIA.  What a legacy to follow!!!
